History: As the eldest (and, for a while, the only) son of the patriarch of the Black family, Sirius had a decidedly odd childhood. Materially, he was provided with everything a person might want- if that person were not a child but a small adult. His toys were never the sort that could really be played with; toy soldier sets made of porcelain are pretty but do not fare so well in games of war. The emerald-hilted sword that he was given to signify his status as the Heir of the House of Black wasn’t much use in childhood games, though it did lead to the accidental beheading of one of the house-elves, and the black stallion that was his Christmas gift when he was nine was not only very pretty, it was very high-spirited and did not appreciate the approach of small boys. Most of Sirius’s time was spent in learning how to be a proper Black. His father didn’t take much interest in him other than to quiz him at dinnertime, and his mother was a cold woman who believed that affection would ruin her son. Sirius’s main playmates were his cousins and his younger brother. Regulus was devoted to him, was his best friend, but only when other people weren’t around- when in the presence of their parents or cousins, Regulus would desert Sirius in attempts to please these others. Out of their three cousins, Sirius really only got on with Andromeda. Narcissa blatantly disgusted him, for the most part, and the older Bellatrix gave him what he termed “a crawly feeling.” He had a tendency to get into fights with the two of them, and while he was clever and mean enough to often reduce Narcissa to tears, he always lost the encounters with Bellatrix. At some point during his childhood, Sirius began to catch on that this was not how life was for most of his peers; always a precocious and even brilliant boy, he would sneak into his family’s extensive library, where he learned a lot about history and about the world outside of the Pureblood hierarchy that he wasn’t strictly supposed to know. He started reading the Daily Prophet, too. This knowledge of the world outside the Black manor interacted with a natural rebellious streak and a deep-seated need for affection that he couldn’t get from his parents, so that by the time he got to Hogwarts, Sirius was more than ready to be a Gryffindor. Oh, he was shocked, and his pride- always told that Slytherin was the only acceptable house- was offended for a while; indeed, his temper was worst that first year, and he was haughty and pretty cruel to his peers. But eventually he decided that away from the world of his cold parents and cruel Pureblood peers was exactly where he wanted to be, and by the end of First Year, Sirius was embracing Gryffindor House and his new friends with gusto. His closest friend was the first he had made, James Potter, a fellow pureblood whose family had a much different outlook on life than the Blacks. Sirius and James were inseparable for the first four years of Hogwarts, always coming up with wild schemes together. Gradually, Sirius also formed a strong, somewhat peculiar bond with Remus Lupin. During this time, Sirius’s hatred for his family’s attitudes and behavior grew and cemented within the boy until he began to thoroughly dread returning home during break and chose to disassociate himself from his family at every opportunity. This, of course, did not please his parents, who sent him Howler after Howler and pressured him in every way imaginable, from manipulation to bribery to outright insult and even threats.
Disclaimer: I'm not Sirius Black. He's not real, as much as it pains me to say it. I also do not own him. You can tell because, if I did, nobody would ever have to point out that Their Love Is So Canon and there would be quite a few more scenes featuring him tied up naked to a bed in the books. I'm just sayin'. Anyway, even if I did own him, JKR would STILL own him because she owns my soul. Please do not sue me, Jo- you've already got my soul, what more could you possibly get from me? Nor do I own the gorgeous Gaspard Ulliel. He's totally not tied up in my closet right now, or anything. Really. I swear. This is just an RP journal for the game
